The telecaster I am building has a maple fretboard, the body is Padauk. I am going to use Padauk markers for the fretboard and wanted to know the best way to prepare the maple so that I don’t impregnate the board with Padauk dust. I plan to use a sanding sealer to seal the maple. This is the first maple fretboard I have done. I appreciate any feedback from those that have done something similar.

Thanks,
Patrick

Patrick,
I mixed Padauk and Maple with no problems.
I did not do anything other than sand and finish.
Perhaps the Maples pores were too small to get Padauk dust in them.

I’ve made several padauk guitars with maple binding, end grafts and so on. Straight grained maple has few issues and any dust that it picks up is easily cleaned with naphtha. If there’s curl the runout of the curl can suck up colour in some cases.
